Engelmann Celebrated Its 50th Anniversary

In 1976, Hans Engelmann founded the company, which is now a global player. A hidden champion; essential for measuring consumption data. Submetering would be unthinkable without it—not just in Germany, but around the world. In 2026, the company celebrated its 50th anniversary. A milestone in our history that had to be celebrated—with none other than Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen, members of Hans Engelmann’s family, nearly all of our employees, as well as customers, suppliers, and many local dignitaries. As a very special piece of history, we managed to acquire one of the first chairs on which Hans Engelmann’s employees began producing heat meters. It stood there, plain and simple, in the foyer—and yet it had so much to tell.

On September 25, everyone gathered at the Heidelberg Stadthalle for an evening of food, music, and plenty of entertainment. The doors to the Stadthalle opened at 5:00 p.m. sharp. In the newly renovated Stadthalle, the approximately 300 guests looked back on five decades of the company’s history. The historic building reopened its doors in the spring of 2026 following extensive modernization. Engelmann was one of the first companies to host a major event in the newly redesigned spaces.

Following the champagne reception in the foyer, Managing Directors Dietrich Fabricius and Michael Keuthen delivered the opening remarks. Then came the surprise: Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen took the stage. In his presentation, “A Healthy Earth, Healthy People,” he humorously linked the topics of climate protection and health. The focus was on the concept of planetary health: Our own health cannot be viewed independently of the health of our environment. Clean air, sufficient water, healthy food, and comfortable temperatures are among the fundamental prerequisites for a healthy life. Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen humorously incorporated Engelmann and our products into his remarks throughout. He also paid special attention to our customer service offerings. In particular, he discussed the video series “Jarek and Brian.”

Following the keynote address, Managing Director Michael Keuthen looked back on 50 years of Engelmann. It was a history that was as eventful as it was inspiring. He paid tribute in particular to the achievements of the Engelmann family, the employees, and the long-standing partnerships with customers and suppliers. From its humble beginnings five decades ago, the company has grown into an internationally active enterprise, supported by the many people who have accompanied and helped shape Engelmann over the years.

In closing, Wiesloch Mayor Ludwig Sauer emphasized Engelmann’s importance to the town of Wiesloch and, in particular, to Baiertal. He also spoke on behalf of the Baiertal local executive committee, which was represented by Michael Glaser. It became clear just how closely the company’s development is tied to the town. It also became clear just how influential Hans Engelmann ultimately was for Baiertal. This connection has recently become visible in the town’s streetscape as well: a section of what was previously Rudolf-Diesel-Straße is now named “Hans-Engelmann-Straße.”

After the official portion of the program, dinner began. Between courses, there was plenty of time for conversation and personal interaction. The jazz trio “Herrenkombo,” led by Thomas Rittler, provided the perfect musical accompaniment to start the evening. Later, Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen and pianist Christoph Reuter took the stage together, delivering another highlight of the program. With musical ease, the two drew the audience into a spectacular piano session. The well-rehearsed duo had it easy, and before long, the entire hall was on its feet.

After that, the evening shifted from gala mode to party mode: DJ Udo Pflästerer took over in the adjoining room, and the party continued late into the night with cocktails, music, and midnight snacks.
