Engelmann wins prestigious business award
Engelmann has been honored as a finalist in the 2025 Grand Prize for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises. This recognition places the Wiesloch-based company among the Top 5 SMEs in Baden-Württemberg.
On September 13th, the moment finally arrived: after a long wait and several selection phases (from the nomination phase to the jury phase), Benedikt Heid, Authorized Officer of Engelmann Sensor, together with Ralf Biebeler, Marketing Manager at Engelmann Sensor, proudly held the coveted trophy in their hands. Recognized as a finalist, the Wiesloch company brought the Grand Prize for SMEs to the Rhine-Neckar region as one of only five companies in Baden-Württemberg. As a result, this hidden champion can now officially call itself one of the Top 5 SMEs in Baden-Württemberg.
The Grand Prize for SMEs was awarded for the 31st time in 2025. It is organized by the Oskar-Patzelt Foundation and carries no financial reward. Instead, the award is about recognizing the achievements of a company. In each federal state, there are winners as well as finalists, all of whom share one thing: they represent the German SME sector and stand among the top companies in their respective state. The award is not given in a specific category but rather considers a company as a whole—taking into account both past performance and future outlook.
Key criteria include revenue, profitability, equity development, and investments; unique selling points and competitive position; the creation and safeguarding of jobs and apprenticeships; employee engagement; expenditures for research and development; support for innovation, modernization, and process optimization; willingness to cooperate; commitment to the environment, social causes, education, entrepreneurship, and volunteer work; marketing expenditures and communication strategies; differentiation; and finally, customer service, events, trade fairs, and media presence.
Across Germany, 4,208 companies were nominated for the 2025 award, including 807 from Baden-Württemberg. These companies had to disclose figures, data, and facts to be considered for the so-called jury list. Nationwide, 460 companies made it onto this list, including 53 from Baden-Württemberg. From these, five companies in Baden-Württemberg were honored as finalists—placing them among the top companies in the state. In all other federal states, one to six finalists as well as one prize winner were and will continue to be recognized.
